Whether you have a home daycare or a non-residential one, the design and setup of your facility plays a significant role in the success of your daycare business. A well designed layout involves strategy and planning to create the perfect environment for learning and development. Here are a few layout suggestions to help you design your own daycare setup.

Furniture and layout

A well-organized layout ensures ease of navigation for children. Creating a clear path from entrance to exit of the room will keep the layout in order. Separate the spaces in the room with the help of furniture, rugs, shelving units or decorations to create visual boundaries for children. Also keep crowded activities and furniture closer to your path of travel within the room and assign corners and floor space for quiet and development based activities.

Storage areas

Keep a cubby storage area where children can keep their bags and belongings when they enter the facility. Make sure it's placed near the entrance for ease of access. Also keep shelving units and desks where teachers can store their equipments and toys, keeping the room clutter-free. In addition to aesthetics, it helps in development of social and organizational skills of children.

Age specific areas

Most of the day care facilities care for children ranging from infants to school-aged children. Every age has its own unique needs and different levels of development. For that purpose you should be able to accommodate a diapering area facing towards the room, nap and crib areas separate from the activity rooms and an open activity area having toys, rugs and areas for free movement for children of every age to feel integrated.
