Classrooms are the hub of learning and experience in a student’s life. They are designed to make students feel comfortable enough to sit and grasp whatever is being taught and stay focused on the tasks at hand.

Sometimes the reason behind students not performing well in a classroom environment is not because of their lack of knowledge but can also be because of a dull environment around them. While we might not think about it on an everyday basis, but colors around a person make a lot of difference in so many ways.

If you feel that students in your classroom are not performing to their full extent, you might want to take a look at the colors of your classroom walls and also consider the age group of your students. Studies have shown that younger children (5 years or less) are empowered by bright colors while older children work better in rooms painted in lighter colors like shades of blue or green. These colors also tend to be less stressful and distracting as 80% brain receives information visually.

Colors should complement each other in a learning environment. Walls painted in a high gloss paint will lose focus of children and can make note taking difficult. A great option is to use water based emulsions such as from the Master Paints Super Emulsion series. They are non-glossy, have superior wash ability and are environment friendly paints.

In Pakistan, it is quite necessary to create our classrooms’ environment as positive as possible. Lighter colors are a great option like yellows and blues as they elicit a positive feeling as compared to deep and dark blues and greys which create negative emotions. Red is also not advisable as it has been known to cause anxiety among children.

We are emphasizing more on blue as it is universally known as an excellent color of productivity. It also enhances focus and efficiency (like restful green) and makes students happier and more effective.
